Rute Coelho

Hello,
My name is Rute Coelho, and I am 39 years of age. I live in Sobral de Monte Agraço, Portugal, with my family, a husband and three children. I live in the countryside, about 40km from Lisbon, which makes it possible for us to have our beloved cat, it name is Tintin. I enjoy living close to the nature, were we can smell fresh air and have a pleasure view of forests. In Portugal we have an expression to describe such places “Where the clock stops”.
I am a positive and social person and I´m curious about new cultures and I enjoy meeting all kinds of people and cultures, because it enriches my life, being that one of the reasons why I enjoy traveling. I find it easy to work in a team as well work independently.
As a future preschool- teacher, and also as a mother, I worry about the future concerning the education of our children. I really believe that children are our future and they should get the best start that is possible in there school-life.
At the moment I don`t have must free time, because I´m studying to become Preschool-teacher, at the University of Maria Ulrich, Lisbon, and also I work in a preschool. On my few free times, I enjoy spending time with my family, I like to read, and listen to music. Other activity I enjoy doing is going for a walk/travel with my family.
Currently I am studying at my second year, out of four to get my master degree in preschool- teacher. This is my first experience with students from other countries, which I believe it will be successful, because in meeting new cultures and new persons I´m able to share experiences and knowledge with others. This, sharing new experiences, I believe, it will give me new perspectives that I can use broadly in my future profession. By hosting different students is a possibility for me to get new experiences and take part of other student´s ways of thinking, within their cultural frames. Since each and every one of us are meeting within the theme, our earlier experiences enriches and develop through discussions and comparison of what each and every one of us carry in our “knowledge-backpack” – this contributes to our learning and pedagogical skills as a future preschool-teacher.
My contribution can be seen by making my experiences accessible, due to my studies this far, but also from the experiences I have acquired in my life. I like to be a part of creating a prosperous group, and work towards a positive development. I believe that, in a positive atmosphere/environment individuals have greater possibilities to develop and learn. My goal is to become a good role-model to the children I´m about to be responsible of. In my future work I want to keep focus on children´s good school and values experience, contribute to make them better persons and active members of our future society.
“The first idea that a child needs to have is the difference between good and evil. And the main function of the educator/teacher is to take care so that it doesn’t confuse the well with passivity and evil with activity. “
Maria Montessori
